Review: Skullgirls

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2056 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes ago
Monday, April 30, 2012 8:06:05 AM GMT
Skullgirls is a downloadable fighting game in a world brimming with big-budget, disc-based games from the same genre. Holding it to the same standards might seem unfair, but expectations from fighting game players are the same regardless of how the game is delivered. That being said, Skullgirls nails some aspects that the big names seem to have overlooked while simultaneously overlooking others (more)

Review: Botanicula

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2056 days, 12 hours, 45 minutes ago
Monday, April 30, 2012 8:05:21 AM GMT
Amanita Design showed that there was definitely still legs in the point 'n click adventure genre when they released the charming Machinarium in 2009. The tale of a small robot seeking his true love both looked and sounded great and the game was a really solid old school adventure title. However, Amanita's new game Botanicula owes more to the slightly more abstract Samorost games, the last of which came out in 2005. Does Botanicula still fit into the point and click mold or is it more unique type of game? (more)

Monday, April 30, 2012 8:00:57 AM GMT
Beamdog has announced the writer for all of that new content coming in the Enhanced Edition of Baldur's Gate: Dave Gross. A very experienced fantasy and D&D writer, Gross has worked for TSR in the past, as well as having written two Forgotten Realms novels. More recently, he says, he was "sitting in a coffee shop complaining about the lack of classic RPGs for the iPad, when [Beamdog's] Trent [Oster] appeared in a sulphurous cloud and said, 'Have I got a job for you.'" Gross will presumably work to up... (more)

The German publisher of Awesomenauts, dtp entertainment, filed for insolvency today, potentially stopping the game's XBLA and PSN launch on May 2. NASA may have pushed back the Orion spacecraft's test flight to 2014, but you can get an early glimpse of the capsule in orbit thanks to this animated video from Full Werks studio. You'll see the capsule circle the planet before touching down in the Pacific -- all with a much better view than you can expect when that actual launch date rolls around. (more)

Switched On: Big kicks, not all for starters

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2056 days, 13 hours, 7 minutes ago
Monday, April 30, 2012 7:43:05 AM GMT
The end of last week's Switched On left doubt for the future of dedicated devices that tread on the turf of smartphones. After all, funding is key to every major new product initiative and, despite the vast fortunes of many Silicon Valley engineers that have been accumulated via IPOs and acquisitions, few wish to take on the risk of fronting a new consumer device themselves.(In 2007, the handheld FlipStart PC was hatched from FlipStart Labs, funded by Vulcan Ventures, the investment arm of Microsoft co-f... Apple spits out Android option from Chomp app navigator

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2056 days, 13 hours, 8 minutes ago
Monday, April 30, 2012 7:42:30 AM GMT
It's taken a bit longer than we expected, but following Apple's acquisition of app search engine Chomp, the Android option has now been cut out from its homepage. We're now left with the choice between iPhone and iPad categories, alongside existing shortcuts for popular freebies and apps on sale, in a few efforts to cut through Cupertino's 600,000-strong app selection. Hit up the source to give it a run for yourself. (more)

There are hundreds of different mouse designs out there featuring a countless variety of shapes, sizes, colors and even illumination, but mechanical keyboards are a different story. Although there are a good number of quality mechanical keyboards out there, none of them offer the complete customization that the V1 Custom Mechanical Keyboard by WASD Keyboards does. (more)

Designer Creates Steampunk Portal Gun

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2056 days, 13 hours, 12 minutes ago

Back in 2010, Volpin Props' Harrison Krix designed a stunning life-sized replica Portal Gun for the Child's Play charity dinner auction. Last year, he followed up with another project to be auctioned off, the Half-Life Gravity Gun replica. As incredible as these two replicas are, it seems as though Krix isn't the only one with a knack for awesome replica gun crafting. (more)

Nvidia Files Patent For Hierarchical Graphics Processors

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2056 days, 13 hours, 13 minutes ago
Monday, April 30, 2012 7:37:07 AM GMT
Filed earlier this year as an extension of the existing patent 7,634,637, Nvidia has applied for a patent that describes a hierarchical processor array. The idea is that there are two or three tiers of processing cores with dedicated functions that alleviates a problem in core design that results in increasingly wide and ineffective graphics rendering pipelines. The Walking Dead game won't be shambling to Australia

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2057 days, 12 hours, 42 minutes ago

Every time a giant zombie horde appears in The Walking Dead, my wife can't help herself when quoting "every day I'm shamba-lin'", sometimes with zombie arm motions to boot. I'm a lucky man. But not everyone in the world can be so blessed, because despite my luck, said zombies won't be shuffling on the sea floor over to the AU: the good ol' Aussie classification laws have interfered with the console release of Telltale's The Walking Dead game series. Final Fantasy XIV desperately attempts to up retention

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2057 days, 12 hours, 43 minutes ago
Sunday, April 29, 2012 8:07:37 AM GMT
Final Fantasy XIV, to put it lightly, didn't have the smoothest launch ever. In fact, I was able to play a near finished build a few E3s back, and I was utterly surprised that they were going to push it to market -- it was barely playable. No matter how cool the launch trailer was (and it was damn cool), an exorbitant amount of people either never tried it, or got fed up with Square's lack of support for the game. (more)
