Activision Blizzard Sued For Virtual World Infringement

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1868 days, 11 hours, 38 minutes ago
Saturday, April 14, 2012 7:14:03 AM GMT
Rather than serve the customer, it seems that most businesses have nothing else better to do than sue each other over patent infringement. History books will one day look back on the turn of the century as the "Era of Patent Infringement" or something even more clever. They'll report that corporations were fighting over the rights of touch controls, operating systems, smileys and now even virtual worlds. (more)

A few weeks back, when the backlash over Mass Effect 3 was at its height, a complaint had been filed with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. The complaints alleged that Electronic Arts lied about Mass Effect 3 when it said player choices would affect the outcome. Well ... the Better Business Bureau agrees. (more)

Nintendo DLC: Ketzal's Corridors and Anne's Doll Studio

As much as this might sound like an odd week for downloadable games on Nintendo platforms, it's actually on par with the same mishmash of content we're regularly given. I want to believe that someone is literally drawing names out of a hat to determine these release dates, but the truth is surely much more mundane. (more)

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Challenges not approved by Sony

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1869 days, 11 hours ago
Friday, April 13, 2012 7:52:02 AM GMT
All you Mass Effect 3 fans are probably aware of the consistent weekend challenge events, that reward players with items and other such bonuses just for playing during certain time frames. Similar to Call of Duty's XP Events, It's a nice way to reward players in an absolutely free manner (what a novel idea!). Well, unfortunately, 360 and PC fans are the only people who get to enjoy it this weekend, because due to an undisclosed reason, Sony isn't supporting it. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1869 days, 11 hours, 6 minutes ago
Friday, April 13, 2012 7:46:03 AM GMT
Back in September of 2010 Google started experimenting with a new Chrome feature called False Start, which cut the latency of SSL handshakes by up to 30 percent. While the delay in forging a secure connection never seemed like a major concern for most, the pause (which could be several hundred milliseconds long) before a browser starts pulling in actual content was too much to swallow for Mountain View engineers.
